British Library - Help for Researchers The British Library’s Resource page for in-house digital resources covering the eighteenth century.
National Library of Scotland - Digital Resources Scotland-based users can register online to access to a fine range of high-quality subscription resources. All users can access its unrivalled in-house collection of historical maps and other visual, audio, and text resources.
Scotland's People This site offers genealogical, census, birth/death records, and other personal details for Scottish genealogies. This is not only a site advantageous to personal users, but would also come in handy for research purposes looking up particular people in Scottish history and life details about them.
National Record of the Historic Environment This site an extensive range of online records related to historic places and buildings through the Canmore database. This is a great source for finding locations of past buildings, their architectural changes, and the heritage associated with them.
National Records of Scotland This is the website for the National Records of Scotland, where a vast archive of research material may be accessed. Here one can find Scottish census records, statistics, birth and death records, basic genealogical information, as well as links to other web pages with related material. A great site for gaining basic information about past people.
Old Bailey Online The site features textual record sources and articles related to criminal trials held in London between 1674 and 1913. It also includes research links and relevant study guides. Includes a wide variety of published material, most notably transcripts, narrating court proceedings.
Board of Longitude (Cambridge Digital Library) This site features a digitized archive of textual research sources related to 18th century British science, innovation, discovery, exploration and travel. Sources include video and educational study guides besides articles and primary source records. The search engine is extensive, and you can search for place, person, ship name, and specific archive collection.
Eighteenth Century Centre (University of Warwick) This site covers an extensive number of topics related to 18th century Great Britain, covering themes such as theatre, social rights, enlightenment, urban life, and revolutions. The resources tab is particularly helpful, providing links to other relevant sites, most notably for the Bodleian Library. Besides these links, though, there is not much to access online regarding research projects, though summaries of these are given.
British Library - Georgian Britain This webpage considers the many aspects of urban life in 18th century Britain, most notably in London. For each topic there are a handful of visuals, including mostly engraving and pamphlet images. Themes include street life, crowds, city improvements and conditions. There is also a helpful list of related links on the same website that correspond nicely with 18th century city life.
DoHistory This site offers resources and information related to an 18th century midwife, Martha Ballard, as well as some basic insights into the lives of ordinary people in that century. It also offers information about getting started on your own research projects. There are also some helpful links to other websites which focus on 18th century gender topics.
The Grub Street Project This site offers a range of information related to 18th century street life and literary life in London. It aims to map the book trade and literary culture to get a sense of London’s past commercial methods. It includes maps of London from 1553 to 1720.
Wellcome Library This site offers an extensive search engine for academic material related to all manner of subjects. You can also search by the catalogue or by different collections of material. The sources in the results come from a wide range of internet pages, and include a variety of media platforms – e-books, e-journals, etc, which can also be narrowed down by date, place, author, etc. like any other major online archive database.
